Lesson 2 of 5 · 2 min
Profile types
Session, composite, fixed-range and developing profiles — and which question each one answers.
Different profiles answer different questions. Using the wrong one is a common source of confusion.
Session profile
One profile per trading session. Shows today's auction — or yesterday's — on its own. Good for daily references: prior day POC, VAH and VAL.
Developing profile
The current session's profile as it forms in real time. The developing POC and value area move as the day trades; whether they're migrating or holding still says a lot about the day type.
Composite profile
Combines several sessions — a week, a month, or a multi-day balance area. Shows the bigger auction: larger areas of acceptance and the thin areas between them that many sessions moved through quickly.
Fixed / visible-range profile
Built over a range you choose — a specific move, a balance area, or whatever is on screen. Useful for studying one leg or one consolidation.
Watch out
A "visible range" profile changes every time you scroll or zoom. Levels from it aren't stable references unless you fix the range deliberately.
Trading implication
A simple, consistent stack: the prior session for daily references, a composite for the bigger picture, and the developing profile for what's happening now.
